How much does a color analysis cost in 2026?

Last updated: August 30, 2026. Every vendor price in this article was checked on that date, and all won figures are converted at 1,400 won to 1 US dollar.

professional color analysis costs between 200 and 800 dollars in the United States, with most in person sessions landing at 300 to 500. Virtual consultations run 150 to 400. A freelance stylist on Fiverr will do the same deliverable for 45 to 60. Software costs 6 to 59, once. The spread is enormous, and almost nobody explains what separates the bands.

Why the same service costs 6 dollars and 800 dollars

Three things drive the price, and only one of them is the analysis itself.

Whether a human looks at you. A trained analyst holding fabric next to your face in daylight is labor, and labor is the whole cost structure. Software has no marginal cost per client, which is why it can charge single digits.

Whether you are paying for a brand. House of Colour is a franchise. Part of its price is the training, the physical color fan, and the studio.

Whether it is a session or a file. A session includes conversation, questions, and someone talking you through your own face. A file is a file.

Is Korea really that much cheaper?

Yes, and it is not a quality trade. Personal color analysis is a mature consumer category in South Korea, so studios compete on price and volume in a way Western ones do not. A Korean language session in Seoul runs 70,000 to 90,000 won, roughly 50 to 64 dollars. English speaking sessions cost 120,000 to 180,000 won, roughly 86 to 129 dollars, because they are aimed at visitors. That is 70 to 100 percent more than the Korean language rate, not the 50 percent often quoted. Group bookings cut another 10 to 20 percent. Won figures are converted at 1,400 won to 1 US dollar, checked on August 30, 2026.

What a color analysis costs in Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States, compared as three price bars

Why do prices vary so much within one country?

Geography, mostly. In the United States, in person sessions run 400 to 800 dollars in major cities, 250 to 500 in mid sized ones, and 200 to 350 in small towns. Franchises like House of Colour let each stylist set their own rate, so two appointments under the same brand can differ by a hundred dollars. If you are price shopping, look one city over.

What does the cheap end actually miss?

Two things, and they are the same two things every time.

Calibration. Almost every app reads an uncalibrated selfie. Your phone camera has already decided what white is, your bathroom light has already shifted your skin, and the app inherits both errors. Any tool that does not put a known reference into the frame is guessing from a guess.

Cuts. Most color tools stop at color. Your palette tells you which navy to buy. It does not tell you whether that jacket should be structured or unstructured, or where your trousers should sit. Half the reason clothes look wrong is geometry, not hue.

Is a color analysis worth it at any price?

It depends on how much you spend on clothes. If you buy four or five pieces a year, an 800 dollar session will never pay for itself. If you spend two thousand a year and a third of it hangs unworn, almost any of these bands is cheap. The honest framing is not what a color analysis costs. It is what buying the wrong things costs, repeated for a decade.

FAQ

Does a more expensive analysis give a more accurate season?

Not reliably. Price mostly tracks labor and brand, not method. A 400 dollar draping session and a 60 dollar Fiverr PDF can use the same 12 season framework. What price does buy you is a human handling ambiguous cases, and physical fabric, which no screen reproduces exactly.

Why do some services charge a subscription?

Because a color season does not change, so there is nothing to subscribe to. Subscriptions in this category are usually bundling wardrobe tools or makeup features around the analysis. If you only want the analysis, a one time payment is the honest structure.

Do I need to pay again if my hair goes gray?

Your undertone does not change. Your value and contrast can, and gray hair is the most common reason. Most people who go significantly gray benefit from one fresh read, years apart, not an annual one.

Are the free quizzes any good?

As a rough sort into warm or cool, sometimes. As a season, rarely. Most free quizzes ask you to self report things you cannot see on yourself, which is the exact problem an analysis is supposed to solve.

How long does each option take?

Software, minutes. Freelance and Etsy, two to seven days. Human reviewed hybrids, around 72 hours. Virtual consultations vary widely, from days to a month. In person, you walk out with it.
